NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF COMPOSITE STEEL-CONCRETE ALVEOLAR BEAMS: WEB-POST BUCKLING, VIERENDEEL AND FLEXURAL MECHANISMS

COMPOSITE ALVEOLAR BEAMS ARE FORMED BY THE UNION OF TWO STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS LARGELY EMPLOYED IN CIVIL CONSTRUCTION SECTOR: THE STEEL-CONCRETE COMPOSITE BEAMS AND THE ALVEOLAR STEEL BEAMS. THUS, ITS USE ALLOWS THEIR ADVANTAGES TO BE ENHANCED, ENABLING TO DESIGN EVEN LARGER SPANS AND TO ACHIEVE MORE ECONOMICAL AND SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS. CONSIDERING THAT BRAZILIAN AND INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS DO NOT SPECIFY CRITERIA FOR THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF THESE BEAMS, ADVANCES IN NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOR AND CAN BE HELPFUL FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF FUTURE NORMALIZATIONS. THEREFORE, THIS WORK PRESENTS THE CONSTRUCTION AND VALIDATION OF A FINITE ELEMENT MODEL, EMPLOYING ANSYS SOFTWARE, VERSION 19.2, USING CURRENT TECHNOLOGY ELEMENTS WITH COMPATIBLE AND UPDATED MATERIAL MODELS. IN ORDER TO SIMULATE THE MODES OF COLLAPSE INVOLVING LOCAL INSTABILITIES, INITIAL GEOMETRIC IMPERFECTIONS WERE ADDED TO THE STEEL PROFILE THROUGH THE COMBINATION OF BUCKLING MODES. THE OBTAINED RESULTS WITH THE DEVELOPED MODEL PRESENTED A GOOD CORRELATION WITH EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS FROM PREVIOUS WORKS.
