IN THIS PAPER THE PROPAGATION OF GUIDED LAMB WAVES AND GUIDED SHEAR HORIZONTALLY POLARIZED (SH) WAVES IN BONDED PLATES IS INVESTIGATED. A MODEL BASED ON DISTRIBUTIONS OF SPRINGS (QUASI-STATIC APPROXIMATION) IS USED TO DESCRIBE THE INTERACTION OF GUIDED WAVES WITH IMPERFECT ADHESIVE LAYERS. THROUGH THIS APPROACH, THE IMPERFECTIONS OF THE ADHESIVE LAYER WERE REPRODUCED BY CHANGING THE STIFFNESS CONSTANT OF THE SPRINGS. THE WAVE DISPERSION SPECTRA FOR THE LAMB WAVES AND SH WAVES WAS OBTAINED FOR DIFFERENT CONDITIONS OF THE ADHESIVE LAYER. THE IN°UENCE OF THE ADHESIVE MASS ON THE DISPERSION CURVES OF SH WAVES WAS ALSO INVESTIGATED. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT LAMB WAVES AND THE SH WAVES ARE SENSITIVE TO THE ALTERATIONS OF THE ADHESIVE LAYER AND HAVE A GREAT POTENTIAL FOR THE EVALUATION OF BONDED JOINTS.Downloads
