OFFSHORE ENERGY HARVESTING OF A MARINE FLOATING PENDULUM PLATFORM MODEL
Abstract
THE WORLD DEMAND OF RENEWABLE ENERGY’S INCREASES EVERY DAY, SO THAT MANY RESEARCHES ARE CONCENTRATED IN SEEK OF NEW ENERGY SOURCES. ONE OF THIS IS THE CONVERSION OF OCEAN WAVES INTO ELECTRIC ENERGY THROUGH ENERGY HARVESTING SYSTEMS. THEREFORE, THIS WORK PRESENTS THE ANALYSIS OF AN OCEAN WAVE ENERGY HARVESTING SYSTEM COMPOSED OF A PENDULUM CONNECTED TO THE SHAFT OF A DIRECT CURRENT (DC) POWER GENERATOR ATTACHED AT THE MIDDLE-TOP OF A FLOATING PLATFORM. IT IS CONSIDERED THAT THE OCEAN WAVES MOTION SWINGS THE PLATFORM, MAKING POSSIBLE TO CONVERT MECHANICAL ENERGY, INDUCED BY THE OCEAN WAVE, INTO ELECTRIC ENERGY. THE MECHANICAL ENERGY IS PROVIDED BY A DC GENERATOR, WHICH WILL ACQUIRE ROTATIONAL MOTION DUE TO VERTICAL SWING OF THE PLATFORM. SEVERAL ANALYSES OF THE PENDULUM SETTINGS AND OCEAN WAVE AMPLITUDE AND FREQUENCY WERE CARRIED OUT DUE TO ITS IMPORTANCE IN OPTIMIZE THE HARVESTED POWER THROUGH THE DC POWER GENERATOR, WHOSE STUDY WAS BASED ON BRAZILIAN’S COAST CHARACTERISTICS. NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS WERE PERFORMED SHOWING THE EFFICIENCY OF CONVERSION OF MECHANICAL ENERGY PROVIDED BY THE PENDULUM INTO ELECTRICITY.
