Abstract

FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS, A PLATE WHICH IS STRONG ENOUGH AGAINST BUCKLING IS AL WAYS DESIRABLE. IN THE MARKET THERE ARE NUMBER OF COMPOSITES AVAILABLE WHICH DIFFER FROM EACH OTHER IN VARIOUS ASPECTS OF ENGINEERING PROPERTIES. IN THE PRESENT STUDY, AN EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE TO IDENTIFY BETTER CONFIGURATION OF GIVEN COMPOSITE TO ACHIEVE HIGHER BUCKLING STRENGTH FOR LAMINATED ANTI-SYMMETRIC CROSS AND ANGLE-PLY SIMPLY SUPPORTED RECTANGULAR ORTHOTROPIC PLATES SUBJECTED TO UNIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE LOADS. THE STUDY HAS FURTHER BEEN EXTENDED WITH NUMBER OF AVAILABLE COMPOSITES TO FIND THE MORE EFFECTIVE TYPE OF COMPOSITE AGAINST BUCKLING FOR GIVEN CON¯GURATION OF LAMINATED PLATES. FOR THIS PURPOSE, A BRIEF FORMULATION, AVAILABLE IN THE LITERATURE, FOR THE ESTIMATION OF BUCKLING LOAD FOR ORTHOTROPIC LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATES HAS BEEN PRESENTED. BASED ON THIS FORMULATION A COMPUTER PROGRAM IS DEVELOPED AND USING THIS PROGRAM VARIOUS PARAMETRIC STUDIES ARE CONDUCTED TO ACHIEVE THE ABOVE OBJECTIVES.
